What is the working principle of bushing?

Bushing is a type of plain bearing used in mechanical equipment whose main function is to reduce friction, support moving parts and provide accurate positioning. The working principle of the bushing is based on the following aspects:

Bronze Wear Strips

1. Reduce friction

Bushings are usually installed between two parts that are in relative motion (such as between shaft and hole) and, through their own material properties or lubrication design, reduce direct contact between parts, thereby reducing friction and wear.

Bushing materials (such as bronze, plastic or composite materials) usually have a low coefficient of friction, which can effectively reduce the resistance of movement.

2. Support and positioning

Bushings provide stable support for shafts, pins, or other moving parts, ensuring that they remain properly positioned and aligned during movement, preventing deflection or vibration.

Through the precise size and shape design, the bushing can ensure the accuracy of the fit between the shaft and the hole, and improve the operating stability of the equipment.

3. Absorb vibration and shock

The bushing has certain elasticity and shock absorption performance, which can absorb the vibration and shock generated during the operation of the equipment and reduce the damage to the mechanical structure.

Especially under high speed or high load conditions, the damping effect of the bushing is particularly important.

4. Provide lubrication

Many bushings have self-lubricating properties (such as oil-containing bushings or graphitic copper bushings) that allow them to function without or with little oil, reducing maintenance requirements.

For bushings that require additional lubrication, lubricating oil or grease can reduce friction and extend service life.

5. Isolation and protection

Bushings can isolate direct contact between different materials, preventing electrochemical corrosion or incompatibility between materials.

Bushings also protect the surface of the shaft or hole from wear or damage, extending the service life of the device.

6. Simplify design and maintenance

The use of bushings simplifies the design of mechanical structures and reduces maintenance costs by simply replacing bushings after wear, rather than having to replace more expensive components such as shafts or housings.

Bushings work to ensure smooth operation of machinery by reducing friction, providing support, absorbing vibration and providing lubrication. It plays an important role in mechanical equipment, which can significantly improve the performance, life and reliability of equipment. Depending on the specific application scenario, bushings of different materials and designs can be selected to meet specific performance requirements.
