Why are oilless bearings so widely used?

Oilless bearings use steel plate as the substrate, the middle layer is composed of sintered spherical bronze powder, and the surface layer is rolled from a mixture of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and lead. This bearing has many advantages, such as low coefficient of friction, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant, oil-free self-lubricating and long service life, the use of which helps to reduce costs, reduce noise and prevent stick-slip phenomenon occurs, and is therefore widely used in printing presses, textile machines, hydraulic trucks, tobacco machines, medicinal machinery, fitness equipment, micro-motors, automobiles, motorcycles, and other types of machinery, such as the sliding parts.

Many friends are curious about the reason why oilless bearings are widely used, and here are the specific reasons:

  • Oilless bearings are a novel lubrication bearing that combines the characteristics of metal bearings and oil-free lubrication bearings. Among them, the metal matrix bears the load, and the specially formulated solid lubricating material plays the role of lubrication. It is characterized by strong load carrying capacity, impact resistance, high temperature resistance and excellent self-lubricating performance, etc. It is especially suitable for heavy load, low speed, reciprocating or oscillating conditions where it is difficult to form an oil film, and it is also not afraid of erosion and scouring by water and acid.
  • Oilless bearings are made of steel plate as the substrate, sintered spherical bronze powder in the middle layer, and rolled PTFE and lead mixture in the surface layer. It has small friction coefficient, wear and corrosion resistance, oil-free self-lubrication and long service life, which can reduce the cost of use, reduce mechanical noise and prevent stick-slip phenomenon.
  • Metal-based solid inlaid oil-free bearings are high-performance solid lubrication products with graphite and molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) composite solid lubricant inlaid on the metal substrate. It breaks through the limitations of traditional bearings relying on oil film lubrication, in use, the frictional heat makes the solid lubricant and the shaft friction, the formation of oil, powder and coexisting lubrication conditions, in the protection of the shaft does not wear at the same time, so that the solid lubrication characteristics can be maintained for a long time.
  • Multi-layer composite oil-free bearings are made of steel plate as the substrate, sintered spherical bronze powder in the middle, rolled PTFE and lead mixture on the surface, and made by rolling process. It has the characteristics of small friction coefficient, wear resistance, good corrosion resistance and oil-free lubrication, which can reduce the cost, reduce the size of machinery, avoid the phenomenon of biting the shaft, and reduce the noise of machinery.

The correct installation method of oilless bearings is as follows:

  1. It is necessary to determine whether the mating surfaces of the shaft center and the shaft shell have any bumps, protrusions and other problems.
  2. Check whether there is dust or mold sand adhering to the surface of the bearing shell.
  3. Even if there are minor bumps, protrusions, etc., they should be removed with an oiled abrasive stone or fine sandpaper.
  4. To avoid bruising during mounting, a small amount of lubricant should be applied to the surface of the shaft and housing. When mounting the bearing to the shaft center, force should be applied to the inner ring; when mounting the bearing in the housing, force should be applied to the outer ring. When applying force, make sure that the force is applied perpendicularly and uniformly, avoiding deflection, which may damage the bearing. In addition, force should never be applied to the retainer or sealing plate of an oilless bearing. The use of hammers and sleeves is a common method of mounting, but direct striking can damage the bearing, so this method should never be used.
